Homefire

The process of composing this track was rather strange in that I wrote it, forgot about it, and then wrote it again. I found that I had two separate project files, both of which had the same drums and bassline and with a slightly different tempo, so I combined them. All of the guitar parts were basically improvised, so there’s a slightly rough feel to the whole thing.

The other reason I haven’t been able to clean this track up is that I don’t actually have the guitar I used for it, a Squier Telecaster 70’s Deluxe, anymore. If I remember correctly, it was the model which was supposed to have the actual Fender Wide Range pickups rather than the Squier version, which have a fairly distinct sound. Unfortunately I just couldn’t get on with the ergonomics of a Telecaster with a belly cut. I know people complain a lot about the plank-style original Telecaster body but, for me, it sits much better than the Custom/Deluxe style which is constantly trying to “lean in” in a way that a Stratocaster doesn’t. I don’t think the Strat-style headstock helps much with the balance on a Tele body shape, either,

Most of the plugins used on this track are the stock Logic guitar and bass settings, but the lead tone is a Tone3000 amp model with the Logic Tube Screamer-esque pedal in front of it.

I have no idea why this track is called “Homefire”, and the person who named it that won’t explain.
