Two Four One

This is an old track which I’ve updated, cleaned up and ‘re-amped’ with new plugins. I also re-recorded some of the messier parts of the solo. This was quite heavily influenced by ‘SRV’ by Eric Johnson and ‘Die To Live’ by Steve Vai, which are both mostly comprised of a lead guitar, bass and drums, with other guitar parts mostly limited to ornamentation.

The Vai and EJ influences notwithstanding, I recorded all of the guitar parts on my JS1000. The JS is designed for playing melody parts which use the space which would normally be occupied by a singer. It’s actually quite a unique instrument in Ibanez’s lineup; the contoured body shape, humbuckers and double-locking bridge are paired up with a neck that’s very traditionally Fender-ish. The very popular Ibanez AZ line also steps away from the classic Wizard profile, but to me the JS has more character.

The sound for the main lead part is tweaked from the “Space Lead” preset from Archetype Petrucci, while the solo is the Soldano Lead patch from the SLO100-X plugin. The bass part and the rhythm guitars are all standard Logic amplifier models.

While I’m mostly using a mix of the built-in Logic Drummer plugins and presets from EZDrummer these days, I actually played the drum parts myself using my Roland TD8-KV electronic drum kit. The Roland V-drums are quite a bit more expensive then some of the competitors these days, but they are built like a tank and have lasted at least a decade longer than the music store they were bought in did.
